The Shawnee Kennel Club is a local all-breed club and actively supports AKC activities and purebred dogs. Our core group is made up of local breeders, owners, and handlers of both conformation and performance dogs of many breeds.
Many of these classes are taught on a skill building basis where behaviors are approximated and then slowly perfected. This takes time and we build a lot of skills! Sometimes there will need to be a break between classes in a session. During the winter it’s not uncommon to have a snow day and even obedience classes may have a few weeks break. We try our best to keep everything rolling along at a comfortable skill-building pace, but we also must work around everyone else who wants to utilize the Whitacre building of the fairgrounds. During the summer, we must take a break during the fair and, because of the heat, we take August off to pursue vacations or travel to more shows.
Most of the dogs you will see in these classes are not only expensive pieces of property, but also members of families. They go home to children and other dogs, all of which may be vulnerable to diseases and parasites. We ask that no one attend class who is sick, and we check that all dogs are vaccinated against rabies. We recommend other vaccinations, regular deworming schedules, flea and tick control, and regular baths/grooming for all dogs. When in doubt, ask for our list of recommended preventative health measures or speak to your veterinarian.

We are an all breed kennel club which was founded to provide support to local dog enthusiasts, especially those who show, breed, and train for AKC dog sports.

As a member of ShawneeKennelClub.org, you will get a discount on one classes every session. In addition, you have the ability to drop in for Handling or Advanced Obedience at a reduced rate.

SKC is a not for profit organization. This offers a great community service opportunity. We ask our members to help at shows, as well as with planning and attending our various events throughout the year.
